Indian food has become a little bit of a default / comfort food for me and my work mates and to be exact, it’s specifically Indian food from New Bombay Restaurant.
This was back when we still held office at a prime location in Makati CBD. But now that we have moved to what many call “the ‘burbs”, where nothing is within walking reach, it is now a treat to be able to enjoy New Bombay ka pag lumuluwas kami sa bayan.
Our knowledge of Indian fare is quite limited. We order pretty much the same sure things each time: the paneer, the masala, and the kadai, accompanied by naan or chapatti and the occasional lassi or chai tea.
We’ll have a Tina (Paneer) and a Bongga (Kadai), we say. Get it, get it?
This time we had chicken tikka masala, vegetable kadai and our ever staple palak paneer, the cottage cheese in spinach sauce.
How do I describe the flavours that attack our palates? I cannot. Which is why I’m not a food writer. I can tell you though that the burst of flavour from the different spices makes us happy.
And that is the essence of comfort food, is it not?
